Nvidia HEVC Encoder: MediaCoder vs Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate

HEVC is a successor to the well known H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression standard. In very basic terms, it allows for 4K resolution video to be compressed and streamed on an Internet connection. Encoding video to HEVC is CPU heavy. So when you need to transcode H.264 video to H.265/HEVC files, you'd better find a HEVC Encoder which provides high-quality video encoding with NVIDIA's hardware acceleration.

Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate and Mediacoder are two excellent universal media transcoding softwares which can put together most cutting-edge audio/video technologies into an out-of-box transcoding solution with a rich set of adjustable parameters which let you take full control of your transcoding. Both of them support H.264/H.265 GPU accelerated encoding (NVENC, CUDA) which can reduce a lot of your HEVC and AVC encoding time.

Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate Overview

Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate is the best BD/DVD/Video solution for Windows users to backup BD/DVD, compress disc and transcode video clip to almost all popular video and audio formats. HEVC GPU Acceleration Encoding Introduction

Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate has upgraded to version 4.9.1.0 with supporting the most advanced hardware acceleration NVIDIA CUDA by H.264/H.265 codec, which can give users up to 30x video transcoding speed than before. With it, you can convert H.264 to H.265, copy DVD to H.265, rip Blu-ray to H.265 even can decrypt 4K Blu-ray to H.265 at ultrafast speed.

Note: H.265 CUDA depends on whether your computer is geared up with H.265 encoding capable graphics card. Please refer to the document on official website of nvidia: https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-video-codec-sdk

Mediacoder Overview

MediaCoder is an universal audio or video batch converter, which puts together lots of excellent audio or video codec's and tools from the open source community into an all-in-one solution, capable of coding among different audio or video formats. It contains many extra features and expandable architecture. MediaCoder is more than a GUI of a bunch of command line tools.

Features In Brief

- Converting between most popular audio and video formats

- H.264/H.265 GPU accelerated encoding (QuickSync, NVENC, CUDA)

- Ripping BD/DVD/VCD/CD and capturing from video cameras

- Enhancing audio and video contents by various filters

- An extremely rich set of transcoding parameters for adjusting and tuning

- Multi-threaded design and parallel filtering unleashing multi-core power

- Segmental Video Encoding technology for improved parallelization

HEVC GPU Acceleration Encoding Introduction

MediaCoder is finally able to encode with NVENC, NVIDIA's hardware SIP core that performs H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC video encoding. To test NVENC with MediaCoder, please install the latest MediaCoder Full Edition and install the following update.

MediaCoder NVENC Update for x86 (32-bit)

MediaCoder NVENC Update for x64 (64-bit)

Once the update installed, NVENC will appear in the video encoder list. Disable video encoder auto selection and choose NVENC and MediaCoder will encode with NVENC. The supported video format is H.264 and H.265 (if you have a GeForce series 9 card).
